Sloppy Joes were one of my favorite meals growing up as a kid. Well, the apple does not fall far from the tree as it is now one of my kids' favorite meals as well. If I am having a hectic week and I need a dinner I can get on the table in under thirty minutes (really under fifteen) that I know the family will actually eat, this is one of my go-to options.
The recipe has just five ingredients and relies on the complexity of pre-packaged condiments to derive it's flavor.
I start by browning meat in a pan over medium heat. Today I was using ground turkey, but I will use anything in this meal - ground chicken, ground turkey or ground beef.
After browning the ground meat, you simply add all the rest of the ingredients to the pan. Stir to combine and then simmer together for five minutes.
The end product should look something like this:
I serve the sloppy joes on hamburger buns. These can be as fancy (or not - today I used good old fashioned white Sunbeam) as you want. I served this alongside some Hippeas and fruit. Other good sides - sweet potato fries and a salad. Really the possibilities are endless.
I hope you enjoy one of my families' favorites!
